Project description:
Launched in Sydney in 2010, Momentum is the global platform for time-based art: video/film, performance, new media and sound.  As a platform bringing together a carefully selected group of artists, their galleries and arts professionals, the aim of Momentum is to create a worldwide network of practitioners, influential decision makers and theorists to address, across global locations, the evolving concerns of time-based practices, both live performance and media-based.  Momentum takes the form of Events periodically bringing together arts professionals in an exhibition context blurring the commercial, noncommercial, and academic in order to rethink established models of institutional practices, and in between Events, provides a community for its participants and opportunities for residencies and exhibition.  Momentum is proud to open its new exhibition space in Berlin with a show of video work generously donated by artists showcased in Momentum / Sydney, our inaugural Event, featuring 6 leading international galleries, 6 performances, 5 internationally curated programs, and providing a project space for 6 local artists to create new work. Altogether showcasing 32 artists, we also brought together 32 of the world’s leading arts professionals in a series of specially designed talks and panel discussions, which can all be viewed here alongside video works by 11 featured Momentum artists from Australia and Europe.  Sydney/Berlin/Worldwide is the inaugural exhibition opening Momentum / Berlin.

Venue information:
Located within the vibrant arts community of Kunstquartier Bethanien, Momentum / Berlin is an exhibition space dedicated to promoting the work of Momentum artists and galleries in the heart of Europe’s thriving art capital.  Galleries participating in Momentum Events worldwide are invited to show time-based work, maintaining the overall focus of Momentum on film/video, performance, new media, and sound.  Momentum galleries to date are: Anna Schwartz (Sydney, Melbourne), DNA (Berlin), Roslyn Oxley9 (Sydney), Starkwhite (Auckland), TaiK (Berlin, Helsinki), 4A Center for Contemporary Asian Art (Sydney).
