The exhibition Adventures in Amberland presents works by artists who deal with the present and past of the Kaliningrad region, with local traditions and the social situation. Moreover, in the scope of the project uqbar organises a residency program, supported by the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (ifa): In December 2010 Danil Akimov and Oleg Blyablyas spent several weeks in Berlin and developed a new work. Danil Akimov is a sound and performance artist and Oleg Blyablyas an artist focussing on video and participatory projects. The artists will conceive and realise together an experimental audio-visual piece with the working title 5 Minutes Berlin. The result will be presented at uqbar in January 2011.
Die Ausstellung Abenteuer im Bernsteinland stellt Arbeiten von Künstlerinnen und Künstlern vor, die sich kritisch mit Geschichte und Gegenwart, den lokalen Traditionen und der gesellschaftlichen Situation in der Region Kaliningrad auseinandersetzen. Darüber hinaus organisiert uqbar im Rahmen des Projekts mit Unterstützung des Instituts für Auslandsbeziehungen (ifa) ein Residenzprogramm: Im Dezember 2010 verbringen Danil Akimov und Oleg Blyablyas mehrere Wochen in Berlin und entwickeln vor Ort gemeinsam eine neue Arbeit. Danil Akimov ist Sound-Künstler mit einem Arbeitsschwerpunkt auf audio-visuellen Performances, Oleg Blyablyas setzt für seine Projekt Fotografie, Video und partizipatorische Praktiken ein. Zusammen konzipieren und realisieren die Künstler eine audio-visuelle Collage mit dem Arbeitstitel 5 Minuten Berlin, die im Januar 2011 bei uqbar vorgestellt wird.

uqbar is an interdisciplinary project space run by the all-women curator collective of Dorothee Bienert, Dortje Drechsel, Marina Sorbello and Antje Weitzel. Uqbar presents exhibitions of international as well as Berlin based artists and organises events, guided tours, artists’ talks, film and video screenings, lectures and workshops. uqbar tends to implement projects and feature art works that have a social or political dimension and that are process or research oriented. Ideas and projects for uqbar are developed in a continuous dialogue within the collective and with the artists and the partners involved. Thus, an important aspect of uqbar’s approach is to implement experimental projects that foster a critical understanding and address new forms of audience participation.
Der von Dorothee Bienert, Dortje Drechsel, Marina Sorbello und Antje Weitzel betriebene, interdisziplinär ausgerichtete Projektraum uqbar zeigt regelmäßig Ausstellungen sowohl von internationalen wie auch von Berliner KünstlerInnen und organisiert Veranstaltungen, Führungen, Künstlergespräche, Film- und Videopräsentationen, Vorträge und Workshops. Zum kuratorischen Konzept von uqbar gehört eine partnerschaftliche und prozessorientierte Zusammenarbeit mit Künstlern und anderen Kulturproduzenten und die Auseinandersetzung mit gesellschaftspolitischen Fragestellungen und Problematiken. Es geht darum, experimentellere Arbeiten vorzustellen, die nicht einem fertigen, leicht verkäuflichen Produkt verpflichtet sind; dazu gehören insbesondere partizipatorische, prozessuale Praktiken, die Kunst als ein Mittel der Wissensproduktion begreifen.
