The workshop examines the current situation of the music industry and culture from the perspective of “Free Culture”: From its very beginnings, the history of music has always been gravitating around the free use of creative works and ideas. However, there has never been such a variety of approaches towards creation and authorship, as well as possibilities of reproduction in all digital and analogue forms as today. This workshop is dedicated to musicians, producers and label managers who want to explore the concept of “Free Culture” as a new perspective for the development of new sustainable artistic and economic models, especially against the backdrop of the current situation of the music industry. Der Workshop beleuchtet die aktuelle Situation von Musikwirtschaft und -kultur unter dem Gesichtspunkt von “Free Culture”: Seit ihren Anfängen ist die Musikgeschichte vom freien Umgang mit schöpferischen Werken und Ideen gekennzeichnet. Noch nie aber waren die kreativen Verschränkungen der Urheber so intensiv wie heute und die Möglichkeiten für Vervielfältigung des künstlerischen Werks in allen seinen analogen wie digitalen Formen so immens. Dieser Workshop für Musiker, Produzenten, Labelbetreiber und andere will das Konzept von “Free Culture” als Impuls und Perspektive nutzen, um angesichts der aktuellen Situation der Musikwirtschaft nach wirtschaftlich und künstlerisch nachhaltigeren Modellen zu suchen sowie ganz praktische Hilfestellungen für die tägliche unternehmerische und kreative Arbeit der Szene zu geben. In September 2006, RADIALSYSTEM V was opened as a new creative space for the arts in Berlin. Formerly a turn of the century pumping station for the Berlin Wasserwerke (Berlin Water Services), RADIALSYSTEM V – situated in the urban centre of Berlin between Friedrichshain, Mitte and Kreuzberg – currently functions as a cultural centre where new ideas ‘radiate’ out in all directions, attracting artists and the public from within as well as beyond the city limits of Berlin.
Hier tanzt die Musik! Das RADIALSYSTEM V hat sich seit seiner Gründung am 09 09 06 durch Jochen Sandig und Folkert Uhde als offener Raum für den Dialog der Künste weit über die Grenzen Berlins hinaus etabliert. Der historische Name des transformierten Pumpwerks am Spreeufer ist Programm: Ein radiales System strahlt von seinem Zentrum in alle Richtungen aus. Das RADIALSYSTEM V bringt Künstler, Kreative und Kulturbegeisterte in Kontakt miteinander und entwickelt aus der Begegnung von Tradition und Innovation, Alter Musik und Zeitgenössischem Tanz, Bildender Kunst und Neuen Medien neue Formate und Genres.
